When you report a problem, tell us your device model, your iOS or Android version, the app version (shown in the app's Settings), the name of the scene you were working on, and what you were doing when it went wrong. That is usually enough for us to reproduce it.

Device requirements

iOS

  • iPhone 12 or newer, running iOS 18 or later.
  • ARKit support is required. The app does not run in the iOS Simulator.
  • Camera access is required; the app cannot work without it.
  • A network connection is needed to log in and to load and save scenes.
  • Devices with a LiDAR sensor get more accurate object occlusion, where real objects hide people and props. Devices without one still work.

Android

  • A device that supports Google Play Services for AR (ARCore), running Android 11 or later. If it is not installed, the app offers a link to install it.
  • Depth support is recommended. The app checks for it when it starts; without depth there is no object occlusion and placement drifts more easily, and the app tells you so and lets you continue.
  • Install from the download page provided by [[COMPANY]]; the Android app is not on Google Play.
  • Camera access is required; the app cannot work without it.
  • A network connection is needed to log in and to load and save scenes.
  • Most Android devices estimate depth from camera motion rather than a depth sensor, so object occlusion is approximate: furniture and door frames hide people reliably, small or moving objects may not.

Common questions

How do I get an account?

Virtual Viewfinder has no public sign-up. Accounts are created by a [[COMPANY]] administrator for staff, contractors, and production partners. Email [[SUPPORT_EMAIL]] from your work address with the project you are working on, and we will set you up.

I can't log in

Check first that you are on a working network and that your email and password are correct — the email is not case-sensitive and leading or trailing spaces are ignored. If your account has been disabled you will be logged out and cannot log in again, even with the right password; that is usually because your access ended, so contact us. If your team runs its own server, open Settings and confirm the server address is the one your administrator gave you.

How do I reset my password?

There is no self-service reset. Write to [[SUPPORT_EMAIL]] from your work address and an administrator will issue a new one.

My scene comes back in the wrong place

When you reopen a scene on iOS, the app tries to recognise the location using the relocalization map saved with it. The Android app has no relocalization map: place the scene origin again at the same spot and everything you placed will follow it. Recognition works best when you stand roughly where you were when you saved, under similar lighting, facing the same features of the room, and when you move the phone slowly to let it look around. Very dark rooms, blank walls, and rearranged furniture all make it harder. If it will not lock on, place the scene origin again by hand and everything you placed will follow it.

People and props float or sink into the floor

Scan the floor until the app has a solid read on it before you place the scene origin. Move the phone gently across the ground rather than sweeping it; large reflective or transparent surfaces confuse the depth estimate.

Where do my photos and videos go?

Straight into your device's photo library. They are not uploaded to our servers, so they are yours to share as your production's rules allow. On iOS, video is captured by recording the screen, so anything visible on screen ends up in the recording — the app hides its controls inside the frame while recording for exactly this reason. On Android the recording is taken from the rendered frame itself, so controls never appear in it, and it has no audio.

The phone gets warm and the image gets softer

Augmented reality is demanding. When the device heats up, the app steps down rendering quality on purpose to keep the session alive rather than letting the system throttle it abruptly. Letting the phone cool and lowering screen brightness help; on iOS, so does turning off person occlusion in Settings.

Can I delete a scene or my data?

You can delete scenes from the scene list in the app. To have your account and everything associated with it removed, email [[PRIVACY_EMAIL]] from your work address. Because accounts are issued by an administrator rather than self-registered, deletion is handled the same way; we confirm your identity and then act on the request.

How do I add a person or prop to the library?

The library is curated by your administrators through the [[COMPANY]] admin console — assets are not uploaded from the app. Send the asset you want added to [[SUPPORT_EMAIL]] and we will review and publish it.

Read the Privacy Policy for what the app collects and the Terms of Service for the licence you are using it under.
